How-To — Installing the TOPP ACK5 Chain Window Actuator

The TOPP ACK5 is one of the most popular chain window actuators we stock at Door Spares, and it's easy to see why. Available in 24V or 230V, in white, silver or black, it suits a wide range of window types and is straightforward to install when you know the steps.

Here's a general overview to get you started.

**Before you begin**

Decide which voltage suits your installation — 24V for low-voltage systems or 230V for mains-powered setups. You'll also need to order your brackets separately; TOPP offer fixed bar brackets and swivel brackets depending on your window type. If your window has a larger step, extension pins are available to overcome the offset.

**Step 1 — Choose your mounting position**

The ACK5 uses a central exit chain, so position the actuator centrally relative to the window opening where possible. Ensure there's clearance for the chain to extend and retract without obstruction.

**Step 2 — Fix the brackets**

Fit your chosen bracket to the window frame and the actuator body. The ACK5 is compatible with fixed and swivel bracket options — swivel brackets are particularly useful where the window and frame aren't parallel.

**Step 3 — Mount the actuator**

Secure the actuator to the bracket, then attach the chain end to the window. The adjustment dial, located on both sides of the unit, allows you to fine-tune the chain tension — there are seven position options to dial in the right fit.

**Step 4 — Wire up**

Connect to your power supply following the wiring diagram in the data sheet. If you're synchronising two actuators on one window, use the synchronisation option to ensure they operate in tandem.

**Step 5 — Test and listen**

Power up and operate the actuator through a full open/close cycle. A built-in buzzer will sound if installation is incorrect — a handy feature that takes the guesswork out of commissioning.

*Important: the ACK5 is not suitable for smoke ventilation applications. If you need smoke control products, please contact us directly.*
