Groom GRL050 Transom Closer - Non Hold Open

The Groom GRL050 is a non-hold-open transom closer for commercial aluminium and timber doors up to 1100mm wide and 110kg in weight. The closer mechanism is housed entirely within the door's top rail — no visible hardware on the door face — making it the standard specification for glazed entrances, shopfronts, and any installation where a surface-mounted overhead closer would be unsuitable aesthetically.

The GRL050 has been independently tested to BS EN 1154 and is suitable for use on fire-rated doors. Three power sizes (EN2, EN3, EN4) cover the full range of standard commercial door sizes. Both closing speed and latching speed are independently adjustable, and a fixed backcheck prevents the door from slamming against a wall or stop when opened suddenly.

Selecting the Right Power Size

Choose the power size based on your door width. As a guide: EN2 for doors up to 700mm, EN3 for doors up to 900mm (the most common specification for standard commercial doors), and EN4 for wider doors up to 1100mm. If the door is particularly heavy for its width, select the next power size up.

Selecting the Right Spindle

Standard spindle suits most aluminium door profiles with a standard transom depth. Extended spindle variants (5mm and 8mm) are available for EN3 and EN4 where the door profile requires additional spindle length to reach the door pivot. If you are unsure which spindle length is correct, measure the distance from the top of the spindle seat in the door to the surface of the top rail.
