The dormakaba EM 500 series is a range of electromagnetic hold-open magnets for fire and smoke check doors. The EM 500 holds the door open when energised by a 24V DC supply and releases automatically when the fire alarm activates — cutting the power to the magnet and allowing the door closer to pull the door shut. The system is fail-safe: any interruption to the power supply, including alarm activation or power failure, results in automatic door release.
Available in surface wall-mounted (EM500G), flush wall-mounted (EM500U), and floor-mounted configurations, the EM 500 modular system provides flexibility to suit virtually any door and frame configuration. Concealed cable routing keeps the installation clean. Available in White and Satin Stainless Steel finishes. CE marked to BS EN 1155.

Wiring Requirement
EM hold-open magnets must be wired through the fire alarm panel so they release on any fire alarm condition. They cannot be connected directly to the mains. The installation must comply with BS 7273-4. This work must be carried out by a qualified electrician or fire alarm engineer.
