dormakaba RTS 85 Transom Closer - Non Hold Open

The dormakaba RTS 85 Non Hold Open is a concealed transom closer for commercial aluminium doors, housed entirely within the door's top rail with no visible hardware on the door face. The non-hold-open configuration means the door always returns to the closed position — the correct specification for fire-rated doors and all escape route doors where the door must never be held open.

Three power sizes — EN3, EN4, and EN5 — cover door widths from 950mm up to 1250mm and door weights up to 110kg. Both closing speed and latching speed are independently adjustable on site, and a fixed backcheck and cushioned backstop protect the door and frame from impact damage. Tested to BS EN 1154 and CE marked.

Selecting the Right Power Size

Match the power size to your door width: EN3 for doors up to 950mm, EN4 for doors up to 1100mm, EN5 for doors up to 1250mm. If the door is at the heavier end of the weight range for its width, select the next power size up.

RTS 85 vs Groom GRL050 — Which Do I Need?

Both are concealed transom closers for commercial aluminium doors. The Groom GRL050 covers doors up to EN4 (1100mm), while the RTS 85 extends to EN5 (1250mm) — making the RTS 85 the correct choice for wider doors. The RTS 85 also offers a 10mm extended spindle option not available on the GRL050. For doors within the GRL050 range, both products are suitable — the choice may depend on stock availability or installer preference.
